Affiliate Programs

Every so often I get an email from a site asking me to take part in their affiliate program. Now this would mean I would get some money whenever someone clicks through from my blog and makes a purchase at their site. I’ve long resisted making my blog commercial at all, but every now and then I think why shouldn’t I earn a smidgen for the writing I do? I doubt the money would amount to much (I don’t really have a big enough readership as of yet) but would it be bad for me to add a couple of ads in the sidebar? I don’t know. I’ve always been proud of the fact that my blog is purely a personal blog. (I may talk up Babeland now and then but that’s because I actually shop there and think they rock. I get no benefits from mentioning them.) So I’m wondering what my readers think. Would it bother you to see ads in my sidebar? I would resist putting too many there as I don’t want my site to be a mess of advertising, but am I being silly in turning down affiliate opportunities?

I think you’d be fine with an amazon widget, or even an amazon HONOR system donation.

That way you can stay true to your librarian nature, and still occasionally get some dough.

I don’t have a problem with ads, as long as it’s the writing that’s driving the ads, and not the ads driving the writing. (and as long as you are being driven ever deeper into the WELL of bondage and submission! Which is what I’m here to read about to start with!)

I don’t have a problem with it. To agree with the poster above, as long as your writing still comes from you and not your affiliates, I don’t think it’ll bother many people.

The main reason I don’t look into doing reviews (which would be fun!) or affiliate advertising is because I have a tiny tiny readership base. ;) average of five to ten readers a day. Granted, they tend to be generally steady readers, from what I can tell. But most of ‘em are going to be sex or lifestyle bloggers, so they already know about any affiliates I’d put up there. *grin*

I don’t mind either. The only issue can be that the pictures are usually X rated and I can’t read the blog while the kids are awake when there are naked or bondage pictures all the way down the side. Right now you have an ocasional picture, but I can scroll through and the kids won’t see. I don’t mind seeing the pics of you :-), but I need to be able to cover them up so my kids don’t know what a perverted mom they have!

I’m totally cool with it. Ads don’t bother me unless they cover what I’m trying to read - you know, the pop ups or those annoying expanding ones.

Now wait a second… I have a question. Sure you do the writing but… After all, while your philosphical interregnums are well done, people would not come by the hundreds to peruse THEM.
And who is it that CREATES the sexual stories that you report?
Where’s MY cut of the proceeds?
