Review: Nea by Lelo

Today I received the Nea from Lelo to review. I’m very excited. The packaging is attractive, just what you’d expect from a high-end sex toy. Within the purple cardboard box is a hard black gift box. Already I’m thinking “elegant” and “sexy” and I haven’t even seen the toy yet! No cheesy plastic shell-wrap with porn star photos on the header card for this baby. Inside, on a black platform with a sturdy, clear plastic cover is the Nea. It’s much smaller than I envisioned from the photo on the website. I suppose the size I envisioned would be unwieldy, but this gadget is about 2.5 inches long by 1.5 inches wide. It’s something you could easily slip into a pocket or handbag. The one I received is fuschia (they call it deep rose it looks a little different on the website) and it has a pretty flower pattern on the back. It’s very pretty for a toy, you could leave it out as an objet d’art. Under the platform is the charger (yay no batteries!) and a user’s manual. I think it might take me a little while to get the gist of the various settings - there’s only two buttons on the thing and it’s like knowing the secret code to a nintendo game to know what sequence to press for the right intensity versus stimulation mode. But still, I’m sure I’ll figure out a favorite in no time - and having varied intensity AND steady vs. pulsation modes is a desirable feature in a vibrator. Right now I have the Nea charging (although it came with a little charge and I played with the buttons for a bit) and I’ll resume this review once I get to use it. Oh, also in the package is a white satiny bag where you could store the Nea if the box is too space-consuming or you can use it to protect the Nea while you travel.

A few hours later….

It took me a while to decide if I was going to review it tonight. I felt kinda bad leaving Davey in the living room as I went off alone into the bedroom, but I wanted to play with the toy alone to really be aware of the sensation. I took the Nea into the bedroom with my laptop (for porn viewing of course!) and I found some kinky porn on tnaflix.com. I only glanced at the porn as I was mostly focused on the Nea. It’s similar to my beloved bullet vibe (which incidentally is made by California Exotic Novelties and has 5 speeds/pulsation combinations to choose from: slow vibe, fast vibe, pulse followed by steady vibe, slow pulse, fast pulse). I started out with just the straight vibration. It was just satisfactory at lower speeds but just about intense enough at the highest speed. I think for something that’s wireless and rechargable it’s very good in intensity. (Not enough if you love the hitachi or the when the sybian is cranked up, but comparable to my bullet vibe.)

I played with the pulsation combos next and found that the short interval pulsation and the “before and after” as they call it (vibration ramps up and down over and over) were really good for teasing myself and getting me wet and turned on, but not steady enough stimulation to allow me to come. I went back to the steady vibration and rubbed the toy against my clit. (I have to do some rubbing with my bullet vibe as well in order to get off.) I got myself on the edge and held back, as I’m supposed to do during my once a week masturbation, I was so close to coming! It felt great! I pulled the vibe away to let the sensations subside so I wouldn’t orgasm just yet, touching it intermittently to my clit.

I find that the right side of my clit is the correct side (for me) for clitoral stimulation with toys. I think the shape of the bullet is a little bit friendlier to being pressed against the side, but the Nea was easy to hold because of its shape. All in all, I liked the Nea and found it comparable to my favorite vibe - while I think the bullet is still my fave, the Nea has wonderful pulsation settings that it lacks. So I’d say in some ways it’s superior to the bullet, in some ways a close second. I think we should just call it a tie.

Clean up is easy - just wipe with soap and water avoiding the charger outlet and the buttons. Changing the settings was much easier than I thought - just read the included user manual to know which button to press when and for how long. The buttons also have a locking feature, perfect for when you travel with the Nea and don’t want it accidentially going off in your purse/pocket/what have you. It’s quiet, quieter than my bullet and has the advantage of no wire. Definitely a nice little toy.
